League recap: Lodi stuns Rutherford in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rutherford, who took down 103rd ranked Rutherford, 33-7.

Michael Dare and Scott Finan provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Glen Rock. The connection went for 51 yards, the longest such play in North Jersey - Colonial this season.

Elmwood Park's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dare threw for 308 and four touchdowns and Nick Smith had 210 yards receiving. On the ground Sean Violante chipped in 108 yards. Randy Santos helped Elmwood Park's passing attack out by catching two balls for 56 yards.

Elmwood Park's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dare has thrown for 631 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Smith has 14 catches for 339 yards. Violante leads the league in rushing with 275 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bulldogs take on the Crusaders. As it stands, Rutherford is in fourth, while Elmwood Park is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Hawthorne takes on Lodi. The Bears have allowed 52 points this season, while the Rams have given up 46. Hawthorne allowed 6 points last week as it beat Ridgefield Memorial.

Lodi moved up to 175 from 276 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in North Jersey - Colonial. A 33-7 win over the Bulldogs helped Pat Tirico's team improve its standing.
