Baseball Game Preview: Tates Creek Commodores vs. Bryan Station Defenders

The Tates Creek Commodores are taking a road trip to square off against the Bryan Station Defenders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tates Creek's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Breathitt County 6-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Commodores.

Carter Gilliam looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cooper Jackson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for Tates Creek: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Bryan Station can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Lafayette 1-0. The game was the first time the Defenders have beaten the Generals on their field since March 21, 2017.

The team relied heavily on Haynes Ratliff, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Tates Creek pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Bryan Station, their record is now 6-9.

Tates Creek came up short against Bryan Station in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Commodores avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
