Yerington is a perfect 10-0 against Incline since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Highlanders at 10:00 a.m. Yerington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Incline's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Yerington took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Oasis Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bighorns on Saturday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since February 28th.
The team relied heavily on Colby Rowe, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kyson Shramek, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
Ten must be Incline's lucky number: they beat Battle Mountain with that score not once but twice last Saturday. The Highlanders beat the Longhorns by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Highlanders.
Zach Harrell and Reeve Denton were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Harrell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Denton struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. At bat, Harrell scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Denton scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave Denton a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tate Gitchell was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Andrew Bodel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Incline's record is now 4-8. As for Yerington, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Yerington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Incline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Yerington was able to grind out a solid victory over Incline when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
