Football Recap: College Station Piles Up the Points Against Cedar Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask College Station). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 73-7 victory over the Cedar Creek Eagles. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Eagles are ranked 1037th).

Trey Walton had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 188 yards and two scores on only eight carries. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 103 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Turner, who rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: College Station was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 391 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to College Station's defense and their seven sacks. Leading the way was Zahron Benford with two. College Station is 2-1 when Benford posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise. The Cougars received some extra help from Benford, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

The win (which was College Station's third in a row) raised their record to 3-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points over those games. As for Cedar Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, College Station will face off against Hays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Hawks have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Cedar Creek, they will challenge Anderson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
