Vasquez was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Santa Clarita Christian on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Cardinals 14-4. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mason Puett made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, five RBI, and one run. Those triples were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Vasquez got a massive performance out of Brandon Vasquez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Nate Jacobson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Clarita Christian only posted an OBP of .345.
Vasquez's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Santa Clarita Christian, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7.
Vasquez will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
