Softball Recap: Stayton Drops Season-High Score on Newport

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stayton). They put the hurt on the Newport Cubs with a sharp 25-4 victory on Wednesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Stayton has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Newport, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stayton will challenge Philomath at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Newport, they will face off against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cubs are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
