Softball Recap: Nekoosa Starts Season with Loss at Home

Nekoosa unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Auburndale Apaches by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Papermakers were not able to make up for their loss to the Apaches from their previous meeting back in May of 2019.

Jackie Beadell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Nekoosa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Montana Rowe, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Auburndale pushed their record up to 2-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Nekoosa is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Assumption at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Auburndale, they will face off against Neillsville/Granton at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
