Basketball Recap: Gibsland-Coleman Takes a Loss

If Gibsland-Coleman was riding high fresh off their 57-20 takedown of Green Oaks last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs fell 69-58 to the Summerfield Rebels on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Gibsland-Coleman still got an impressive performance from Samora Sampson, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 44.8% of Gibsland-Coleman's points, marking the eighth time in a row Sampson has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of DonShayla Rushing, who put up 14 points.

Even though they lost, Gibsland-Coleman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Gibsland-Coleman's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 16-10. As for Summerfield, they pushed their record up to 24-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Gibsland-Coleman will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Starks at 5:30 p.m. on February 24th. Summerfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
