Football Game Preview: Croatan Cougars vs. Hunt Warriors

The Croatan Cougars will head out to square off against the Hunt Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Croatan is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Croatan is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They slipped by Havelock 22-21.

Croatan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Boucher, who picked up 70 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 65 yards and one score. The Cougars also relied on Boucher, who's 45-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game. Kannon McBride did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals.

Another reason for the win was Croatan's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Christian Taylor was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Meanwhile, Hunt hadn't done well against Southern Nash recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over the Firebirds. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Croatan better keep an eye on Doryan Jones. He was instrumental in Hunt's win, rushing for 195 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Jones has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Mez Harris, who threw for 115 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hunt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Croatan's record now sits at 11-1. As for Hunt, their record is now 10-2.
