Basketball Recap: East Alton-Wood River Comes Up Short

East Alton-Wood River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a blow against the Civic Memorial Eagles, falling 70-34. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while the Eagles are ranked 145th).

When it comes to explaining why East Alton-Wood River lost, don't look at Tamarion Marshall. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. That was a full 47.1% of East Alton-Wood River's points, marking the third time in a row Marshall has posted more than a third of the team's points. Harrison Smith was another key player, putting up five points.

Adam Ogden was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-10 on his way to 18 points for Civic Memorial. Another player making a difference was Jack Piening, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 13 points and five rebounds.

East Alton-Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 2-25. As for Civic Memorial, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-10.

East Alton-Wood River wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-42 win against Mt. Olive on the 11th. As for Civic Memorial, they have also already played their next match, a 61-46 victory against Roxana on the 11th.
