Baseball Recap: DeLand Gets the Win

DeLand had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 5-5 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Winter Springs Bears 3-2. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 10-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jeremy Wright tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. DeLand is 2-1 when Wright allows two or fewer hits, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Ethan Zagers was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Austen Pielin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for Winter Springs, the loss snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 7-2 record. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

On Winter Springs' side, Tripp Rosenberger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Rosenberger has allowed since back in April of 2025.

On the hitting side, Luke Walters was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.

Looking ahead, DeLand will venture away from home to challenge Spruce Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winter Springs, they will host Seminole at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
