Basketball Game Preview: Lake Hornets vs. Newton Tigers

Lake is 0-10 against Newton since January of 2020 but things could change on Monday. The Lake Hornets will venture away from home to challenge the Newton Tigers at 7:00 p.m.

Lake is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since November 30, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Bay Springs by a score of 63-60. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 45th).

Meanwhile, Newton had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Scott Central by a score of 44-36 on Friday.

Newton's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Things could have been worse for Lake, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-40 loss to Newton in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Lake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
