Basketball Game Preview: Wootton Patriots vs. Clarksburg Coyotes

The Wootton Patriots will head out to square off against the Clarksburg Coyotes at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Tuesday, Wootton didn't have quite enough to beat Richard Montgomery and fell 57-54.

Despite the defeat, Wootton had strong showings from Chase Mitchell, who posted 22 points and five assists, and Brenden Famulare, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points along with seven boards and three steals. Those seven rebounds gave Famulare a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Waldron, who had four points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Clarksburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Frederick. That's two games in a row now that the Coyotes have lost by exactly four points.

Wootton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Clarksburg, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 0-2.

Wootton beat Clarksburg 45-37 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wootton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
