Soccer Game Preview: Woodruff vs. Southside Christian

The Woodruff Wolverines will take on the Southside Christian Sabres at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Woodruff took a four-goal loss the last time they faced off against Brashier Middle College Charter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines had just enough and edged out the Bengal 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Woodruff.

Kaelyn Glass and Nallely Perez scored both of Woodruff's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 22 goals.

Meanwhile, Southside Christian came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 2-0 shutout. Give Southside Christian's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Southside Christian's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those four contests. As for Woodruff, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.

Woodruff was able to grind out a solid win over Southside Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2015, winning 4-2. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Sabres have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
