Baseball Game Preview: La Jolla Vikings vs. San Diego Cavers

La Jolla is 7-2 against San Diego since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will welcome the Cavers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (La Jolla has five straight victories, San Diego has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If La Jolla beats San Diego with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Vikings blew past Morse 10-4 on Thursday.

Travis Lancaster made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Lancaster was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Lafever, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Hank Hansen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, San Diego didn't have quite enough to beat Mission Bay on Thursday and fell 5-4.

La Jolla pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.5 runs across that stretch. As for San Diego, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13-1.

La Jolla skirted past San Diego 3-2 in their previous matchup on Saturday. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
