Basketball Recap: Sal Bonasera's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northeast Metro RVT over Innovation Academy

Northeast Metro RVT was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-63 heartbreaker at the hands of the Innovation Academy Red Tailed Hawk. Even though they lost, the Knights' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.8 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sal Bonasera, who posted 17 points. The dominant performance gave Bonasera a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Esien Clarke, who had 14 points.

It was another big night for Bryce Kankam, who dropped a double-double with 34 points and 16 boards for Innovation Academy. Kankam has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Logan Barnes was another key player, going 7-for-14 on his way to 17 points and three steals.

Northeast Metro RVT's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Innovation Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-14 record this season.

Coming up, Northeast Metro RVT will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Nashoba Valley Tech at 5:30 p.m. As for Innovation Academy, they have already played their next match, a 72-56 defeat against Notre Dame Cristo Rey on the 11th.
