Basketball Recap: Ironton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Ironton had won two straight games and Ashton Layne did his part to make it three on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers walked away with a 57-46 victory over the Portsmouth West Senators with plenty of help from Layne, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. His afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points.

Maddix Markel was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played.

Ironton's record now sits at 11-2. As for Portsmouth West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Ironton will host Fairland at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Tigers will need to watch out since the Dragons have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests. As for Portsmouth West, they are taking a road trip to challenge Waverly at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Senators will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.08 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
