Softball Recap: Copper Canyon Wins Going Away Against Sierra Linda

Copper Canyon won against Sierra Linda last Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Aztecs were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Bulldogs. The game was the first time the Aztecs have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since March 14, 2016.

Kayla Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

In other batting news, Alexis Caswell was a standout: she scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Goldie Chambers was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Copper Canyon's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-10. As for Sierra Linda, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Copper Canyon will face off against Washington at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Sierra Linda, they will square off against Glendale at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Cardinals have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
