Football Recap: Garland Comes Up Short

Garland and Wylie East pushed the score to 66-10 the last time they played Wylie East, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Owls took a 17-3 bruising from the Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 563rd, while the Raiders are ranked 166th).

Carlos Mojica threw for 82 yards on ten of 23 attempts. Adam Rotich was his top target, picking up 31 receiving yards. On the ground, Sam Marshall rushed for 88 yards.

Wylie East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonathan Utubor, who rushed for 140 yards and one score while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Those 140 rushing yards gave Utubor a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden McLemore, who threw for 216 yards on 17 of 32 attempts.

Garland now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Wylie East, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Garland has already played their next matchup, a 22-17 win against North Garland on the 7th. As for Wylie East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 36-28 victory against Wylie on the 7th.
