Omaha South is 0-4 against Norfolk since January of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Omaha South Packers will venture away from home to square off against the Norfolk Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Omaha South is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Gross Catholic and fell 80-24. While losing is never fun, the Packers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Cougars are ranked 66th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Eve Hodoly, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Harper, who put up nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Norfolk was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 69-60 to Burke.
Omaha South will have to contain Bo Caskey as she made an impact in Norfolk's last game. She almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine boards. The contest was Caskey's third in a row with at least 17 points. Skylar Indra was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Norfolk smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.
Omaha South's loss dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Norfolk, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Omaha South has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Norfolk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Omaha South ended up a good deal behind Norfolk in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, losing 65-46. Thankfully for Omaha South, Erin Schwanebeck (who earned 21 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
