Baseball Recap: Dakota Wins Going Away Against Durand/Pecatonica

Dakota barely beat Durand/Pecatonica the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians blew past the Rivermen 16-1 on Tuesday. That looming 16-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.

Braxton Mazurkiewicz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Dakota's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 6-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Dakota got a massive performance out of Brodie Goode, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The Indians are undefeated when Goode posts two or more runs, but 6-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Bowers, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Dakota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Dakota's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-11. As for Durand/Pecatonica, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dakota will square off against East Dubuque at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Durand/Pecatonica, they will challenge Lena-Winslow at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
