Preview: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Fairbury Jeffs
Sandy Creek has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Fairbury Jeffs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sandy Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Sandy Creek was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Thayer Central. Sandy Creek has not had much luck with Thayer Central recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite their loss, Sandy Creek saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emma Fisher, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Sophie Dane, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Fairbury strolled past Auburn with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 50-31. The win was just what Fairbury needed coming off of a 58-33 defeat in their prior matchup.
Sandy Creek has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Fairbury, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Sandy Creek won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, slipping by Fairbury 37-36. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Fairbury's Hannah Robertson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
