Softball Recap: Anderson County Comes Up Short

Anderson County had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it nine. They came up short against the Santa Fe Trail Chargers, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Friday.

As for Santa Fe Trail, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

For Santa Fe Trail's part, the result came thanks to Reese Black's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. Black has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sydnee Sleichter, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kendall Baird, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Anderson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Santa Fe Trail, they are taking a road trip to face off against Iola at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
