Softball Recap: Brown County Triumphs

Brown County's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Switzerland County Pacers 4-3. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ava Sanders was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailee Darnell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Grace Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Brown County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Brown County and Switzerland County will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Eagles are set to square off against their familiar foe North Putnam at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Switzerland County will take on rival South Ripley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
