Baseball Recap: Westmoreland Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Westmoreland won the last time they faced Portland and things went their way on Friday too. Westmoreland was the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over Portland. Considering the Eagles have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kooper Perry looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kade Perry and Aaron Freeman did most of the damage at the plate: Kade scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Freeman went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Perry has posted since back in February. Matthew Fuller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Westmoreland's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Portland, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Coming up, Westmoreland is taking a road trip to challenge Hume-Fogg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Portland, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Portland Panthers challenge Greenbrier Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Greenbrier has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something Portland will no doubt try to take advantage of.
