The Mechanicsburg Wildcats will take on the Northern York Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Mechanicsburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Pennsylvania's top teams: Red Land, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Mechanicsburg was ranked third). The Wildcats came up short against the Patriots on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.
Mechanicsburg was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Red Land work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 29-27, 25-14.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Northern York's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 3-1 to Palmyra. While the Polar Bears didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-21 in the first set.
Northern York started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-21.
Mechanicsburg will have to keep a close watch on Tyler Allen and Ty Witmer, a pair of players who had a big impact on Northern York's prior game. Allen had five digs and two blocks, while Witmer had 13 digs and one assist. Allen is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 20 every time he's taken the court this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Mechanicsburg fell to 7-1. As for Northern York, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
