Baseball Game Preview: Streetsboro Rockets vs. Howland Tigers

The Streetsboro Rockets will face off against the Howland Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Streetsboro's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Howland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Streetsboro was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Crestwood 8-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Rockets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Howland waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let Springfield get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Howland, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Richie Ansel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Terry Werner was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Howland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Howland pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Streetsboro, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
