Softball Preview: Sparkman Senators vs. Brooks Lions
The Sparkman Senators are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will challenge the Brooks Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Sparkman's win against Helena wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Sparkman narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Helena 3-1. The Senators haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Sparkman's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Raychel Harmon, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Bella Mayfield also deserves some recognition as she stole her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brooks, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Grissom on Saturday.
Faith Roberson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stole at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Baylee Darby was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Brooks hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Sparkman's record now sits at 8-3. As for Brooks, their record now sits at 2-3.
