Football Game Preview: Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson Mustangs vs. Anaconda Copperheads

The Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson Mustangs will square off against the Anaconda Copperheads at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson's defense has only allowed 13.2 points per game this season, so Anaconda's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Glasgow/Hinsdale/Nashua, who was ranked ninth at the time (Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson was ranked 16th). The Mustangs came up short against the Scotties on Friday, falling 38-13. Having soared to a lofty 54 points in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Although Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson took the loss, they still got scores from Dawson Hammond and Kazner Oxarart.

Anaconda never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Powell County on Friday. They blew past the Wardens 56-12. The result was nothing new for the Copperheads, who have now won three games by 40 points or more so far this season.

Anaconda didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kyson Patrick and Travis Dye. Dye also rushed for 103 rushing yards, which is notable because Anaconda is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise.

Anaconda's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.0 points over those games. As for Malta/Whitewater/Saco/Dodson, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
