Baseball Recap: Person Find Success

Person proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Northern Durham Knights 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rockets have posted since April 17, 2024.

Brennen Kiser and Keeghan Holmes made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Kiser tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Holmes pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Person is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. At bat, Kiser got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI, while Holmes scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Holmes has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gavin Dodson was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Person's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Ethan Norris also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Person's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northern Durham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Person has already played their next game, a 5-2 victory against Western Alamance on the 11th. As for Northern Durham, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-0 defeat against Wake Forest on the 11th.
