It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Malad had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Declo Hornets. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 23 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Liddia Gonzalez tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Riglee Peterson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brylee Oglesbee, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Malad is on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Declo, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
Malad has already played their next contest, a 12-5 win against Parma on the 16th. Declo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
