Baseball Recap: Perry Falls Short Against Ranked O'connor

Perry faced O'Connor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Pumas took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The match marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Perry got a good showing from Jaxson Schattenberg, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schattenberg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Hover made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Calendo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Perry's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-4. As for O'Connor, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

As for O'Connor, they will challenge Shadow Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Stallions will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
