Recap: Mount Vernon Mustangs vs. Whitefield Academy WolfPack
If The Mount Vernon Mustangs were feeling good off their 49-7 takedown of the Mount Pisgah Christian Patriots last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mount Vernon was just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to Whitefield Academy. Mount Vernon gained 152 more yards on the day, but it was Whitefield Academy that made the best of use of them.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Nazarian, who threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Nazarian hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Walker Warshaw also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitefield Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Callum Neese, who rushed for 60 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Ian Weihe was another key contributor, picking up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Whitefield Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Vernon will face off against St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Whitefield Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Mount Pisgah Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
