Basketball Preview: Campbell County Camels vs. East Thunderbirds
Campbell County is 1-9 against the Thunderbirds since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The pair will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Campbell County is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
Last Saturday, Campbell County faced the Plainsmen in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Campbell County was the victim of a rough 69-47 defeat at the hands of the Plainsmen. While losing is never fun, Campbell County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wyoming basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Plainsmen are ranked second).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Rylan Robertson, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Hladky, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Campbell County struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, East didn't have too much trouble with the Mustangs at home on Saturday as they won 65-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for East.
Campbell County has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for East, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Campbell County was dealt a bruising 72-26 loss at the hands of the Thunderbirds in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Campbell County was down 38-11.
