Basketball Game Preview: South Spartans vs. West Warriors

South hasn't had much luck against West recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The South Spartans will face off against the West Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

South took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 71-61 win over El Segundo. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely West's strategy against Ocean View on Saturday. West blew past Ocean View 74-54. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Seahawks are ranked 1024th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for West, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.

South was able to grind out a solid victory over West when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 69-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for South since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
