Basketball Recap: Jack Gioffre's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fredericksburg over Davenport

Fredericksburg lost against Davenport back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Fredericksburg Billies fell to the Davenport Wolves 60-56. While losing is never fun, the Billies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Wolves are ranked 247th).

Fredericksburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jack Gioffre, who posted 16 points along with six boards and five assists. The contest was Gioffre's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Austin Greene, who earned nine points and six assists.

Gioffre wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Fredericksburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Davenport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Mckinney, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points. Mckinney is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. Richard Groff was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Fredericksburg has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-12 record this season. As for Davenport, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-5.

Fredericksburg will host Wimberley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wimberley will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Fredericksburg surely won't give up without a fight. As for Davenport, they are taking a road trip to take on Canyon Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Davenport's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.
