Baseball Recap: New Covenant Academy Comes Up Short

New Covenant Academy dropped their record down to 15-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Monett Cubs, falling 10-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 8-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

For Monett's part, Aidan Clapper made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Clapper also tossed a walk, which is notable because Monett is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-10 otherwise. Clapper was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and four stolen bases. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Carson Burtrum looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Miles Young, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Seitz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Covenant Academy will head out to square off against Greenwood at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monett, they will venture away from home to challenge Aurora at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
