Softball Recap: Eastern Montgomery Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Eastern Montgomery entered their tilt with Narrows on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Green Waves a 10-0 shutout. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Green Waves, too.

Mary Miller was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rena Chandler and Macie Akers did most of the damage at the plate: Chandler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Akers got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Chandler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Brein, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Eastern Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matchups.

Eastern Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Narrows, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern Montgomery will welcome George Wythe at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroons have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Narrows, they will square off against Graham at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
