Basketball Recap: Hartsville Drops Season-High Score on Central

Hartsville scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Central Eagles by a score of 81-79. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (56), the Red Foxes still had to take the loss.

Hartsville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derrion Gattison, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaries Huggins, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 18 points.

Even though they lost, Hartsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Edmond out in front who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Edmond is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 4-2 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrius Myers, who posted 26 points and three steals.

Hartsville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Hartsville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-32 win against Central Academy on the 28th. As for Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-40 victory against Lamar on the 28th.
