Baseball Recap: Culver Community Falls Short of Elkhart Christian Academy in the Playoffs

Culver Community and Elkhart Christian Academy squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Culver Community had to settle for second. They fell 10-6 to the Eagles. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 10-1.

Caleb McCuen was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Culver Community: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-14 otherwise.

McCuen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adam Peterson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

With the loss, Culver Community broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-15. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-17 record this season.

Culver Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will square off against Triton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
