Velva suffers third straight loss at home

Recap: Velva Aggies vs. Westhope/Newburg Sioux

The Velva Aggies lost against the Westhope/Newburg Sioux back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Velva was beaten by Westhope/Newburg 70-38. While losing is never fun, Velva can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Westhope/Newburg is ranked ninth).

Walker Braaten continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Westhope/Newburg, dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Braaten has scored at least 25% of Westhope/Newburg's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Tolstad, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Velva's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-7. As for Westhope/Newburg, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Velva will take on Bishop Ryan at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Ryan is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Westhope/Newburg, they will be playing at home against Berthold at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Berthold is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
