Softball Game Preview: Willits Wolverines vs. South Fork Cubs

Willits is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while South Fork is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wolverines will welcome the Cubs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Willits' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so South Fork's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Willits played against Tomales two weeks ago and won via forfeit.

The home team had won the previous seven meetings between South Fork and Ferndale, and South Fork kept the tradition alive. The Cubs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Cubs as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Mackenzie Coleman was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Coleman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Hailey Shepherd was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Molly Perkins, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

South Fork was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

South Fork's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Willits, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
