Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Mckinleyville's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, McKinleyville's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 65-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Enterprise Hornets. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 47-45 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, McKinleyville still got an impressive performance from Cole Armstrong, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Armstrong has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Henry Turner IV, who had eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, McKinleyville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Enterprise's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ja'Kye Rawls led the charge by going 8 of 14 on his way to 23 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rawls has scored at least a third of Enterprise's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alijah Collins, who put up 14 points and four steals.

McKinleyville's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Enterprise, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

McKinleyville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-61 victory against Eureka on the 8th. As for Enterprise, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-45 defeat against Red Bluff on the 9th.
