Softball Game Preview: Western Warriors vs. Moapa Valley Pirates

Western hasn't had much luck against Moapa Valley recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. Western has given up an average of 17.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Western managed to slip by Democracy Prep Agassi Campus the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors came up short against the Blue Knights on Friday, falling 21-6. The Warriors' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, Moapa Valley entered their tilt with Virgin Valley on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 15-11 victory over the Bulldogs. Surprisingly, this marked the Pirates' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

The team relied heavily on Emmy Cornwall, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aurelie Stratton, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Moapa Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Moapa Valley's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.1 runs over those games. As for Western, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Western might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Moapa Valley when the teams last played on April 7th. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
