Baseball Game Preview: Morris Eagles vs. Haskell Haymakers

The Morris Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Haskell Haymakers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Morris' win against Roland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Rangers 8-7 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 4, 2024.

Porter typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Haskell proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Pirates. The Haymakers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Haskell got a great performance from Nevin Sheedy as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Sheedy has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryker Porter was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Haskell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Petty, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Haskell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Haskell now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Morris, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-16.

Morris might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Haskell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
