Basketball Recap: Pender Pendragons vs. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family
Even though the Pender Pendragons have not done well against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Pender breezed by the on the road to the tune of 53-26. That's another feather in the cap for Pender, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Pender was led to victory by Alex Roth and Zander Welsh. Roth scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Welsh scored 12 points along with six steals. Gannon Walsh was another key contributor, scoring six points.
When it comes to explaining why Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family lost, one person who can't be blamed is Owen Kurtenbach. Despite the final result, he scored six points along with three steals and two blocks. Kurtenbach has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played.
Even though they lost, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pender only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Pender is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-10.
Pender and the Bluejays will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Guardian Angels Central Catholic is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, they will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Crofton is ranked 163rd, while the are ranked 175th).
