The Western Christian Fighting Lancers will take on the Muir Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Western Christian was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Paloma Valley 4-3.
Saraiah Quiroz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, Western Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giada Partida, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Muir came into Saturday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Poly with a sharp 9-1 win on Saturday. Considering the Mustangs have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jazmin Jaquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Abigail (Abi) Milton was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gianna (GiGi) Butler, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Muir was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Muir's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Western Christian, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Western Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Muir struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
