Baseball Game Preview: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas

Rancho Cotate is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 4:00 p.m.

It was a proper cat-fight when Rancho Cotate duked it out with Windsor on Friday. Rancho Cotate took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Windsor. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Maria Carrillo made easy work of Ukiah on Wednesday and carried off a 13-5 victory. Considering the Pumas have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Hunt tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tristan Jordan, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Purugganan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

With the defeat, Rancho Cotate broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Maria Carrillo, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
