Basketball Recap: Grayson County Takes a Loss

Grayson County played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs 64-37. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-30 back in December of 2024.

Grayson County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Maverik Goad, who posted ten points and four steals. Adam Pennington was another key player, putting up five points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Grayson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Eastern Montgomery's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grayson Caldwell, who went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talan Bruce, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Grayson County has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Eastern Montgomery, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Grayson County has already played their next matchup, a 53-11 victory against Giles on the 17th. As for Eastern Montgomery, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-46 win against Rural Retreat on the 18th.
