Basketball Recap: Bishop Verot's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After a string of five wins, Bishop Verot's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Neumann Celtics by a score of 54-52. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Celtics are ranked 208th).

Bishop Verot lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cameron O'Halloran, who went 8 for 17 en route to 22 points. The game was O'Halloran's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Ward, who posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Bishop Verot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Mylee Van De Wouw continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Neumann, going 13 of 24 on her way to 27 points along with six boards and five steals. Van De Wouw has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maddy Donahue, who scored 18 points.

Bishop Verot's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Neumann, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season.

Bishop Verot does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Neumann has already played their next game (against Community School of Naples), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
